Getting There

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy:3:16

“Beyond this place there be dragons.”
Early cartographers, limited in their scope of knowledge of the vastness of the earth, are said to have placed a unique symbol on certain regions of their hand-made parchment maps of the day, signifying fair warning to those foolhardy enough to journey into those uncharted waters that they would be flirting with disaster. One can imagine the temptation to mutiny, when the captain cried, “Maps? Forget the maps, men! We’re going on!” With Global Positioning Satellites circling the earth today, there is little need to reference a printed map; access to accurate, dependable guidance from point A to point B is as easy as keying in an address or longitudinal-latitudinal coordinates on a computer as small as a deck of cards. For armchair travelers, earth view satellites can even take you strolling down country lanes from Greece to Liberia! Our world is certainly more easily navigated today. And while we may not fear the mythical dragons of old, danger still abounds. Technology can alert us to bridge closings, road repairs, slowdowns, detours and even direct us to the shortest or fastest routes. But what of our travels towards Spiritual maturity? What resource can we depend upon to protect us from the landmines and potholes of a world in chaos? Be reassured: as His children, we have God’s Positioning Spirit, a GPS for life. Recharge those batteries! Turn to His Word and seek the direction to every destination, the guidance through and around every obstacle. Open the Gospel of Jesus Christ and key in the coordinates of your life in all its messy complexities, the potholes, the dead-ends, the detours, the missed turns. Bring it all to the light of His Word and let the Holy Spirit speak. Then hand Him the keys. Don’t be surprised…when you find in His Word the direction you seek, the comfort for your grief, the counsel to right a wrong, the encouragement to grow deeper and to be braver in His service, the forgiveness for your transgressions…that you hear Him whisper:
